One of the healthiest foods

Everyone's life on Earth is unique. We all work different jobs, live vastly different lives, and live in different parts of the world. We have our families, our hobbies, our schedules, and our routines.

However, we all have some common necessities - food, water, shelter, etc. Even though most of us lead very busy lives, we all take some time out of each day to eat.

However, I don't think there is enough focus today on the health effects of the foods we choose to put in our bodies. Food is not just the simple pleasure of life. It is a source of fuel for our bodies, and it influences the way we think, feels, and even behave.

The following quote is one that I find incredibly powerful, and that I think sums up the effects of food on the human body very well:

"The food you eat can be either the safest and most potent form of medicine or the slowest form of poison." - Ann Wigmore

Food can really improve and improve your life, just like it happened to me five years ago (and still does today). While I've written articles about the health benefits of different foods before, I feel it's important to continue to do so.

Today, there are tens of thousands of possibilities to pick from.

I believe that by increasing our knowledge of the specific benefits each unique ingredient provides, we can all make informed decisions about food, and ultimately improve our health.

Here are three foods that science says are some of the healthiest you can eat. I've provided supporting evidence for each, along with details about the benefits you can expect to get as a result of taking them.

1. This Cruciferous Vegetable

When I was a little girl, there was a vegetable in particular that I had a special attachment to, but not because I liked the taste of it.

I thought broccoli florets looked like little trees, and I like to eat the tops. At that age, I wasn't eating broccoli with the purpose of improving my health, yet that's exactly what I was doing.

In fact, research shows that:

Low dietary intake of fruits and vegetables doubles the risk of developing most types of cancer compared to large amounts and significantly increases the risk of heart disease and cataracts. With only 9% of Americans eating the recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables per day, the opportunity to improve health through an improved diet is fantastic."

While all fruits and vegetables offer many positive health benefits, broccoli in particular provides plenty of vitamin K and vitamin C, among other key micronutrients.

Moreover, broccoli contains:

"Many powerful antioxidants that may support healthy cells and tissues throughout the body."

Broccoli is a powerful vegetable that I enjoy every week. If you don't enjoy regular broccoli, I highly recommend steaming it and adding it to a delicious pasta dish, such as Alfredo's creamy vegan chickpea pasta.

2. This seed is a superfood

Chia seeds are a powerful ingredient that can easily be added to meals and snacks you're likely to already eat, such as oatmeal, cereal, and smoothie fruit juices.

Chia seeds are rich in antioxidants, and research has shown positive associations between antioxidants and lifespan as well as protection against cell damage.

Chia seeds also contain a good amount of protein. fact,

“By weight, they contain about 14% protein, which is quite high compared to most plants. They also have a good balance of essential amino acids, so your body should be able to utilize their protein content.”

It's quite clear that chia seeds offer some amazing health benefits. You can try this simple vegan chia pudding recipe for a quick and easy treat.

3. This is a unique fat source

The last healthy food I am sharing today is a unique source of fat with a number of interesting benefits - coconut.

Coconut isn't for everyone, now I understand. My dad doesn't really like the taste of it, and it's one of those flavors that are very strong and hard to hide.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding coconut and other related products, such as coconut oil, due to the high content of saturated fat. fact,

Coconut oil is made up of about 90% saturated fat and 9% polyunsaturated fat. However, the saturated fats in them are different from the saturated fats in animal fats. More than 50% of the fat in coconut oil is medium-chain fatty acids.”

The distinguishing factor here is the make-up of fatty acids. Medium-chain fatty acids differ from long-chain fatty acids in that they:

"It is absorbed intact by the small intestine and is not subject to processes of degradation and re-esterification.

It is used directly in the body to produce energy."

The takeaway here is that coconut offers a number of potential benefits in addition to several vitamins and minerals, so you shouldn't necessarily let the saturated fat content steer you away from the fruit entirely.

Last Thoughts

One of the best ways to improve your health is to make positive, sustainable changes to your diet and stick to them over the long term.

I failed to adopt a healthier lifestyle when I entered high school because I changed my ways for a day, five days, or even two weeks, but then went back to eating sugary and processed sweets regularly. When I finally committed to adopting a balanced, sustainable lifestyle, that's when I began to feel the positive effects of consistently living and eating healthy.

While no single food will instantly make you a healthy person, constantly providing your body with powerful, minimally processed ingredients will help you get to that point.

In the end, both your body and mind will thank you.
